In Germany, around 200,000 people are affected by Parkinson's disease, which is associated with a clear, largely demographic cause annual increase. People are opposed to movement therapy measures, as they are often prescribed: inertia, desperation, resignation and obvious hopelessness are just a few of the motives that lead to a failure to stick to regular exercise after an initial departure, thus inevitably setting in motion the spiral of perceived and demonstrable deterioration in health. The application we designed and developed addresses the target disease Parkinson. Motivational impulses for movement are continuously provided using entertaining video sequences. The videos were staged by the actor and comedian Markus Maria Profitlich, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, and the qualified sports, gymnastics and dance teacher Ingrid Profitlich. The application is expanded by a novel, simple game to create additional incentives for executing movements.
The application has been available freely since October 2022 under “Profi's Motivation” on the App Store (Apple) and on Google Play since May 2023, without any costs or obligations. We also distance ourselves from (in-app) advertising and other commercial revenue models.
The app was published on all prominent media channels on the Internet and TV and was additionally awarded in 2024 by the Gesellschaft fuer Informatik / Arbeitskreis Wirtschaftsinformatik
